Artist Talk and Reception
Tuesday, November 3 | 6:30 pm

In South of Hy-Brazil, Irish artist Caoimhghin Ó Fraithile showcases exquisite ink drawings on  handmade  paper, combining text in the Irish language with  an imagined  topography that refers to the sacred land and seascapes influenced by the hermitage island of Skellig Michael of the coast of Kerry. This  ongoing  body  of  work collapses  past  and  present,  isolation  and  socialization,  fragility  and  permanence,  and  reflects the transient nature of humanity and our place within nature.

Caoimhghin grew up in the southwest of Ireland where he received a BA in fine arts at the Limerick Collage of Art and Design. He then went on to receive a MFA at the University of Missouri and since graduating in 2000 has developed his practice through residencies and exhibitions that have taken him around the globe. He has been awarded the Pollack-Krasner Award, Irish Arts Council and Ealain an Gealtechta project grants and much support from Culture Ireland for his international projects in promoting Irish art and culture abroad.
