How It’s New York: This is the first break-out song from the Broadway musical, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. Read our review here!
How It’s Irish: U2! Bono and the Edge did the score to the musical. As a score it isn’t really perfect; not all that well integrated, but there are some good songs in it, and this is one of the most hummable.
FEATURING BONO AND THE EDGE
TODAY ON VEVO, and embedded here, the first music video from Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark, Reeve Carney featuring Bono and the Edge!
The video is directed by Aaron Platt and Joseph Toma, and in addition to the song shows a look at the actor training for his roles and the making of the musical.
The single, produced by Alex Da Kid, is available on the album now on Interscope.
My overall impression:
Wow, the last 20 minutes of this show are fun! … The music soars and we end on a reprise of the show’s strongest number “Rise Above.” My companion was humming it as she exited.
That all sounds like a big thumbs up, no? Humming a song, great ending, happy kids? But it isn’t really. Nor is it a big thumbs down. I’m pretty firmly in the “thumb in the middle” here.
And of the song:
Many of the songs, with music and lyrics by Bono and the Edge, are pretty catchy. That my friend found herself humming “Rise Above” has a lot to do with that song being one of the few to be reprised properly.
