This series is designed to provide children with the chance to interact with IAC artists and performers, while taking part in the creative process. Activities and events will relate to the artistic programs we present, offering the chance for parents to expand the Irish Arts Center experience for their children.
Toy Theatre Making Workshop with Sarah Burton Whicker
Sunday, September 27 | 11 am – 3 pm | Ages 7 – 10
New York based artist and puppet fabricator Sarah Burton Whicker will lead a crafty toy theatre class where kids’ imaginations will soar. In advance of our first-ever Rí Rá Children’s Festival of Literature, students will build small table top stages inspired by Irish author and playwright Oscar Wilde’s “The Happy Prince.” After time spent reading, learning puppetry techniques, designing characters and scenery, and assembling their own unique stages, Oscar Wilde’s story will premiere on each stage–all within the expressive and surreal possibilities of this vibrant style of puppetry
We are a group of writers who love Irish and Celtic arts. Some of us are performers; musicians; actors; some of us are authors; some of us journalists. Check this out for a list of our writers!
We would love to hear from you! Thoughts, suggestions, anything at all! Drop us a line.
