Stefano Benni, born in Bologna in and is a prolific writer with some thirty titles to his credit. They include novels and collections of short stories such as Bar Sport, Terral (a satirical science fiction novel), The Undersea Bar (Il bar sotto il mare), Baol and the latest novel at this writing, Bread and Storm (Pane e tempesta, 2009); screenplays, poetry, and plays (two collections, Teatro and Teatro 2, 1999 and 2003, respectively). He is a political satirist who has written for a number of Italian weeklies, including The Express and Panorama, and the daily newspaper The Republic. His readers have constructed a web site, Bennilogia, an online encyclopedia in which all are invited to participate. The two plays that will be read at Origin’s Mondays in May are, The Hero’s Wife and Sherlock the Bartender, from Teatro.
