Steafán Hanvey is a singer-songwriter from Northern Ireland who was born during one of the bloodiest years of “The Troubles.” Growing up in an artistic and unconventional household – his father, Bobbie Hanvey, is an acclaimed photographer and both of his parents were traditional Irish musicians – Steafán’sexposure to all kinds of music began in utero. Citing influences from Simon and Garfunkel to Liam Clancy, perhaps the most important of all was the home itself, where the young Steafán was often called upon to perform a tune or two.

A recent segment on NPR’s Morning Edition had this to say about Look Behind You! a multimedia piece Mr. Hanvey is sharing while in New York City: “Steafán Hanvey is thoughtful, intelligent and reflective about the culture and family that shaped him, as well as how it has influenced and defined his recent album, ‘Nuclear Family.’ When I first learned about Steafán and Bobbie Hanvey, I knew their story was something special . . . One that deserved to be told through the very art that it had inspired.”

Steafán will be performing an intimate acoustic set at Rockwood Music Hall – Stage 3 on Wednesday May 21st at 9:30pm. Tickets are $10 at the door or online at www.rockwoodmusichall.com/
